Memorandum to save the life of the people gave to the High Commission of Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand

H.E. Madurapochana Ittarong,

The Ambassador

Thai Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh
House No.14, Road No.11
Baridhara, Dhaka 1212, Bangladesh

Sub: A Memorandum by HRPB requesting you for humanitarian help and shelter to the thousands of Bangladeshis and other people stranded at sea.

Your Excellency,

Our organization, “Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh”  (HRPB) is a human rights organization working for upholding the human rights and the dignity of the common people. That since its journey, HRPB has been engaged in promoting and defending human rights, supporting the victims of human rights violations and protecting the environment and establishing the rule of law.

That in recent time, we have noticed that many national and international newspapers and other media have published news that thousands of people from Bangladesh and Myanmar are stranded at sea close to Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. That the stranded people-many of them are women, children and adolescents as well-are the impoverished economic migrants fleeing Bangladesh and the ethnic Muslim Rohingya escaping discrimination in Burma. That they have been stranded at sea without proper food, water and other basic human needs for a long time and hence, they have been living an inhuman life on board, which reminds our humanitarian responsibility towards them. Few hundreds have already died due to shortage of food or water. That the situation they have been facing needs to be addressed in a humanitarian way and with utmost humanitarian grounds from all of us concern.

That in the circumstances above, we request the Government of Thailand through your Excellency to come forward to help the stranded migrants at sea and to find out the boats carrying them and allow them shelter and give them medical treatment, and basic human needs.

                                                Regards-

Advocate Manzill Murshid                               Advocate Asaduzzaman Siddiqui

President, HRPB.                                                                        Secretary, HRPB
